Six Steps to Weight Loss Success
Your best chance for losing weight and keeping it off is to use a personalized weight loss plan. Researchers have found that most people who lose weight and keep it off have followed their own combination of rules, rather than following one standard diet. The idea is to create a healthy lifestyle that you can maintain by forming better habits. The following six steps will provide a solid framework for your own weight loss plan. Read it over and insert the specifics that best fit YOU and your lifestyle. 1. You need to begin with motivation and commitment to change. Put aside the ?wanting? and ?wishing? to lose weight. Make the decision to lose the weight and create a healthy life. Commit to doing your best and focus on what you will gain by losing weight. 2. You need support in some form. Seek out your supporters, request their help and let them know specifically what they can do to assist you. You may find support from a family member, friend or co-worker, but there are other sources for support, too. Do not despair if someone in your life doesn?t jump forward with support for you. Ask others to join you, find a weight loss buddy online, or begin posting to a weight loss message board. My personal favorite: hire a life coach and have support focused entirely on wonderful you! 3. Journaling (or blogging), taking notes, keeping a food diary, even designing charts, are all great opportunities to see progress, patterns, and confront issues head-on. Personally, I kept a blog as I lost weight. At first I kept it as a personal journal, but I eventually opened it up to the public. It helped to keep me inspired knowing that others were reading and looking to me for support. I encourage you to choose the method that fits you best and do it as frequently or infrequently as you desire. Allow it to change as your needs or abilities change. 4. Keep it healthy by making good food choices. Don?t follow fad diets, starvation diets, or allow yourself to be pulled in by the promise of quick and easy weight loss by pills and such. Your healthy diet should include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, heart-healthy fats, lean meats (or soy), and at least eight glasses of water a day. 5. To lose weight you need to burn more calories than you take in. You do not have to jump into a big exercise program to do this. You can build extra movement into your daily routine. Take an extra trip up the stairs; park towards the back of the parking lot; walk around the mall before you actually begin shopping, get up and move during TV commercials? When you are ready, you can begin more formal exercise. 6. Begin with baby steps and keep moving! Small steps allow you to move toward your goal in a steady manner. To get started, you may add one glass of water to your day, or exercise through one set of commercials. Don?t worry if your steps seem very small. They can be guaranteed successes that encourage you to do more. Find steps that will move you forward and don?t worry about making major changes at first. If you try to do too much, too soon, it can cause burn-out, overwhelment, despair, and cravings. Easy, no-fail steps add up quickly and before too long you could be ready for major leaps. Are you ready to create a healthy life? Take your first step today. Stephanie Griffin, inspirational life coach, has created the Enlightened Health workshops. Reducing Cholesterol And Body Fat With Tea
High cholesterol, heart disease and obesity are serious health issues, and seem to go hand in hand. A diet heavy in high cholesterol foods like meat, cheese and eggs can cause weight gain and high cholesterol levels. High cholesterol levels and being overweight, in turn, lead to heart disease. So, getting cholesterol levels and weight under control are significant factors in reducing the risk of heart disease. To reduce cholesterol levels and take off extra pounds, reduce the amount of red meats in your diet, replacing them with poultry and fish. Eat low fat dairy products, and limit your intake of egg yolks. Eat high fiber, whole grain products like oatmeal, as these can help reduce cholesterol levels. Be certain that you?re eating lots of fruits and vegetables ? fresh is best, and avoid processed foods. These dietary changes should help you lose excess weight and lower your cholesterol levels. In addition to dietary changes, exercise is very important in weight maintenance and lowering cholesterol. Aim for 30 minutes of cardiovascular activity 3-5 times a week (walking is fine). In addition, 20 minutes of strength training 3 times a week is also beneficial. Strength training helps you tone and build muscle. Since muscle burns more calories than fat even at rest, adding some extra muscle speeds up your metabolism, which helps you maintain, or reduce, your weight. In addition, since we all begin to lose some muscle mass each year beginning as early as age 30, building muscle helps compensate for this loss, keeping you strong as you age. Tea May Help, Too In addition to making changes to your diet and exercise habits, drinking tea may be helpful, too. In the last few years, there has been a great deal of research on the benefits of tea. Tea is rich in anti-oxidants, which are known to slow down the aging process and prevent disease. Studies have shown tea, particularly green tea, to be effective at preventing heart disease and some forms of cancer. Green tea is found to be more effective than other types of tea because of the way it?s processed. Green tea is not fermented, which helps to keep the anti-oxidants in their most natural, healthy state. In addition to helping prevent disease, tea has also been shown to be an effective way to help lose weight. Tea contains caffeine, which has been shown in many studies to speed the metabolism. However, tea has been shown to be a more effective weight loss supplement than other beverages that contain caffeine. So, researchers have concluded that it is more than just the caffeine that makes tea so effective. It is believed that it is the combination of tea?s caffeine and its anti-oxidants, known as catechins, that work together to help with weight loss. In addition to speeding up metabolism, it is also believed that tea can promote the oxidation of fat, making weight loss come more easily. Tea also seems to regulate insulin levels in the blood, which may be of benefit to those whose weight has made them insulin resistant, a precursor to diabetes. People with insulin resistance are often overweight and have trouble losing the weight because the body doesn?t process insulin properly. One research study on this subject is particularly interesting. The study looked at Japanese men and measured their body fat and LDL cholesterol levels. First, the participants were put on a monitored diet for a two week period of time. Then the participants were divided into groups with similar BMIs and waist circumference. The study period was 12 weeks, during which time the participants ate a controlled diet and received one of two beverages as a supplement. The beverages were either oolong tea containing 690 milligrams of tea catechins or oolong tea containing 22 milligrams of tea catechins. At the end of the study period, the subjects were evaluated on fat loss, body weight, BMI and LDL cholesterol levels. Participants who received the tea supplement containing 690 milligrams of tea catechins had significantly lower body weight, BMI, body fat and cholesterol levels over the participants who received the tea containing 22 milligrams of tea catechins. The study concluded that with similar diet and exercise routines, drinking tea produced better weight loss results and lowered cholesterol more than diets that did not contain such high levels of tea catechins. It?s important to note that this study did not measure the effects of tea?s caffeine on participants. In fact, the oolong tea consumed by each group contained the same amount of caffeine. So, this study leads us to believe that it is the tea catechins rather than the caffeine that produces weight loss results. Many people take supplements for weight loss, and many of them prove to have negative side effects or to be unhealthy overall. This is another reason that using tea as a weight loss supplement is preferable to relying on other types of supplements. Tea is generally healthy and has no side effects. In fact, most people who are normally sensitive to caffeine can tolerate tea?s caffeine without experiencing side effects. So, if you?re working to control your weight and cholesterol levels, there may be no better ally than drinking some tea. Jon Stout is Chairman of the Golden Moon Tea Company. Reasons to Buy Hoodia Weight Loss Products
Hoodia is a cactus that is causing a stir within the weight loss industry due to its appetite suppressing capabilities. The product hoodia is sold in capsule, liquid and tea form in health food stores and also on the internet. 60 Minutes, ABC, and the BBC have all issued articles on the hoodia weight loss product. Although hoodia was only recently discovered and introduced into the U.S. market, the Bushmen of the Kalahari desert, South Africa, have been eating hoodia for many centuries. The bushmen were known to cut off sections of the stem and eat it as it would make them feel fuller faster and longer. It was also known that the bushmen would eat the hoodia as a means of reducing abdominal cramps, indigestion and diabetes. In 1963, scientists at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) began studying hoodia and found initial results very promising; lab animals lost weight after taking hoodia. Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer caught wind of hoodia and the results it was showing and became very interested in developing a hoodia drug. Pfizer discovered a molecule within hoodia, P57 which is known to be the appetite suppressant molecule. Many of the worlds leading pharmaceutical companies are now hoping to license this P57 molecule into a legalized weight loss pill. Hoodia appears to suppress the appetite dramatically and makes you feel fuller faster and longer. The buzz surrounding hoodia all started as a result of the 60Minutes correspondent Leslie Stahl who’s crew traveled to Africa to try hoodia. Leslie Stahl tried the hoodia product before her hunting trip into the desert. She said she “lost the desire to eat or drink the entire day.” For more information about hoodia gordonii and hoodia products click here

Overcoming Initial Fitness Challenges
Sometimes rough roads turn up along even the best fitness course of action. These rough challenges can cause you to alter speed and direction, just like real bumps in pavement for vehicles. So let?s see how to maneuver your way around them so that you can continue along on your path to success. Negativity Negative comments from others can be challenging, especially during initial planning and action stages and during stagnant times when there seems to be no apparent progress. First of all, understanding why these comments occur can help you pass right on by these bumps in the road. Generally, negative comments come from a couple of different types or groups of people. One group includes fitness trainers and others who actually work at the gyms and fitness centers for regular pay. These people often have a couple of things on their mind which reflects why they?re being negative with you: (a) they?ve read maybe an issue or two of a fitness magazine and think they know everything, when they don?t (b) they?ve not been properly trained themselves and do not have reliable information to offer sound comments and feedback about what you are doing (c) they want your money and by steering you away from what you are doing and having you rely on them means more money for training dollars, stuff you can buy at the gym (power bars, shakes, courses with fees, etc.) and extra gym time on your membership, etc. Another type of people who offer negative comments are feeling different emotions because of you and your fitness plans. They often include things like (a) jealousy because they wish they could do what you?re doing but for whatever reasons aren?t (b) ignorance; i.e. they?ve also read a couple of fitness magazines and think they know everything, especially what?s right for you (c) low self-esteem and fear; i.e. deep down inside they want you to fail so that they can feel superior and / or they do not want to get in there and get fit, too. It?s hard work and few want to bother. Positivism Combat the negativity with positivism. Here are a couple of tips: - Start taking and cranking up the volume on your MP3 player. - Tell trainers and others there, ?Thanks for the interest but?? and briefly explain that you must follow the plan your physician helped you map out and need to get back to work at it now because your schedule is full. - De-stress by jogging or running, try a change of pace and bike outdoors or work out at home or during a different time once in awhile. - Rant on fitness forums, then get back to your workout. Don?t give up, though, and give in to the negativity. Keep up your spirits and take care of yourself. Eventually the others will turn away and focus on others ? or maybe follow your lead and focus on their own improvement plans. Now that would be a win-win! No Link Between Your Activity Level And Your Body Mass Index
A researcher at Plymouth University in the South of England has concluded that the child obesity crisis in England has not been caused by a lack of exercise. He also concludes that the current crisis in children’s health is caused by the type and amount of food we are feeding our kids. If that’s right, it’s shocking to think that the fast meal you treat your kids to may be causing them long-term harm. In the UK nearly 15% of children are clinically obese. Not slightly overweight, but obese. That’s 5 or 6 children in the average classroom. And that’s for children under 10! The evidence shows that physical activity seems to be controlled by a child’s genes. If a child does a lot of physical exercise at school they tend not to do much more when they get home. But a child who does no physical activity at school tended to do more in the evening when they got home. Professor Wilkin suggests that there is no correlation between how much activity you do and your body mass index. If that’s correct and it’s true for children, it must be true for adults too. So you may not be able to shift much weight just by exercise alone. A pretty bleak thought for anyone who’s wanting to lose some weight. Just consider this statistic from the UK: Roughly ?1.5 billion ($2.8 billion) is being spent on providing school sports fields. Just 0.07% was the funding sought by the research team. No funding has been offered. So what would be a sensible way to ensure your child doesn’t get fat? Come to that, what would be a sensible way for adults? Well, the Professor hasn’t advocated stopping activity. But he does put emphasis on diet, both quantity and quality. So a wholesome regime of fresh foods, fewer treats and yes, some activity, would seem to be a winner. Since so little funding is available for research into this important area it seems we’ll all have to do our own research. Fortunately with the internet in so many homes at least the tools are there. You just have to use them. ———————————————– Using simple techniques he has helped many people overcome fear of success, fear of failure and fear of life. As Amin says, ‘It only takes a second to change your mind’.

Natural Weight Loss Options Which Natural Weight Loss Option Is Right For You
A major health concern of people today is obesity. Two thirds of Americans are overweight and 15% off teenagers are as well. Obesity is a huge risk factor for life-threatening health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney problems, cardiovascular issues, stroke, cancer and gallstones. People are turning to natural weight loss supplements to help them maintain a weight loss regimen to achieve a normal body mass index. Your body mass index is a number that measures your height to weight and gives you a range of numbers in which ?normal? falls. When starting a new program be sure to consult a doctor and be aware of any side effects as well as interactions with any other medication you may be taking or medical conditions you may have. Natural weight loss includes the use of herbal supplements to raise the body?s metabolism, suppress the appetite and to add to the overall feeling of well-being. People have been looking for a way to naturally lose weight for hundreds of years. But just because the word natural or herbal is included doesn?t guarantee the safety of the product. When the media began focusing on dietary health and healthier lifestyle manufacturers began to add ?all natural? and ?all herbal? to their packaging. However those terms must meet FDA standards when they are used to label foods and medications. In other words a specific amount of the product must be all natural or herbal. Some herbal supplements used for weight loss are Aloe Vera which improves digestion by cleaning the digestive tract; Astralgus which provides a boost of energy and satisfies the cravings for sweets; Bee Pollen that stimulates metabolism and satisfies the urges for sweets; kelp that boosts metabolism and licorice that reduces the craving for sweets and regulates blood sugar. Herbal supplements are usually cost effective and prescription medications are more expensive. There seems to be lower number of side effects to using natural weight loss supplements and they are a healthier alternative to prescription medications. However, natural weight loss supplements have not all undergone intense scientific scrutiny for side effects during long-term use. Do your research on the particular product and ingredients before you chose to take a natural weight loss supplement. Ephedra is an example of a natural weight loss supplement that was widely used and sold with excellent results before studies showed that the side effects of using Ephedra included cardiac problems and death. The effectiveness of natural weight loss supplements is usually subjective and be vastly different from consumer to consumer. These difference can be attributed to genetic differences in people and the variations in the ingredients. The manufacture of natural weight loss supplements is not regulated. The plants are harvested under varying conditions, the timing of the harvest can affect the active ingredient, the processing and the exposure to air and light can also affect the efficacy of the natural weight loss supplement. Like using prescriptions there are drawbacks and strong points to using natural weight loss supplements. These are specific to the product you chose. Remember that there are many ways to loose weight but they all amount to the same thing: burn more calories than you eat; eating less or burning more or a combination of both. Choices in the weight loss industry are phenomenal. Natural weight loss supplements are only one choice. But, depending upon the product and the manufacturer they can very well be the best choice.
